Weekend outing: The South Midlands
Jun 9 – Jun 11 all-day

All members should travel by coach from Cork (leaving 10am, Friday, June 9th, returning Sunday evening, June 11th). A number of sites will be visited on way to Birr, with lunch in Roscrea. Sites will include St Cronan’s church and Roscrea Castle, Loughmoe Castle, Birr Castle and telescope, Birr town, Clonmacnoise monastic site, Clonfert cathedral, Aughrim battlefield, Shannon Harbour and others (Dr Clare O’Halloran, Caimin O’Brien, Flor Hurley and other speakers).

Members should book using form posted out; return this to the Hon. Treasurer by June 2nd, 2017.

Entry charges may apply for certain sites. Members are responsible for booking own accommodation.

Day outing: Drimoleague @ All Saints Church

Sites to include Drimoleague church, Kilnaruane pillar stone, Abbey graveyard, Bantry town and Reenadisert fortified house (Dr Paul MacCotter, Rev. Liam Crowley PP, and others).

Members should bring picnic lunch or patronise local facilities.

Day outing: Fenian Rising 150th Anniversary, East Cork

Evening outing: Cork city, brewing capital @ Outside former Beamish & Crawford Brewery

Assemble outside former Beamish & Crawford brewery by South Gate Bridge for a walking tour looking at the history of some of the former breweries of the city and their public houses.

Day outing: Kilmallock

Assemble at New Road, Kilmallock (around corner from Gortboy Service Station on the Charleville side of town). A walking tour of the medieval town looking at the walls, the Collegiate Church, the Dominican Priory, Kings Castle, Blossom Gate and other aspects of the town’s history and archaeology (Sarah McCutcheon and other speakers).

Members should bring a picnic lunch or use local facilities.
