Evening outing to Monard Glen, near Blarney, to visit Monard and Coolowen Ironworks, which were in operation from the 1730s to the 1960s. This event will link with the Skills and Traditions of the Past and the Water Heritage themes of National Heritage Week 2022. Speaker: Dr Colin Rynne.
Meet at 7pm at entrance to Monard Glen. Monard Glen is reached by going on the slip road after the sign for Killeens/Limerick over the N20, turning left at the Sunset Ridge Hotel and then straight on for approximately one kilometre. There is a Science Direct sign pointing to Monard Glen at the entrance.

Society’s Christmas Event
This event is a social reception, with finger food and wine, followed by a short talk entitled ‘Yuletide at Her Majesty’s Pleasure?’ by Dr Ciarán Dawson, Ionad na Gaeilge Labhartha, UCC. The event will also include a formal launch for our 2022 Journal.
The cost per person is €15 and attendance must be booked by registering at our Christmas Event Registration page.

Afternoon outing to Kilcrea Friary, near Ovens. Speaker: Denise Maher, author of Kilcrea Friary: Franciscan Heritage in County Cork. The event will include Máire Ní Chéileachair, TG4 Singer of the Year 2018, singing Caoineadh Airt Uí Laoghaire to mark the 250th anniversary of his death.
Kilcrea is signposted on the N22 (Cork to Macroom road). There is limited parking at friary. Otherwise, there is roadside parking about five minutes’ walk past the friary.
